There’s two camps here and I can see merit in both but at the end of the day it really depends on what you want.
Here are some things to think about when planning a rehearsal - or not!
Where Do I Need To Stand?
If you have a large bridal party it can be a good idea to work out timings, positioning and who is responsible for fixing the brides dress, taking the flowers and holding the rings.
On the other side, trying to get everyone to one place in that lead up to the wedding can be a stressful nightmare that you just don’t need. If you do have a rehearsal, book it in very early so everyone has it in their calendars.
What Does Dad Do?
At a rehearsal we will also ensure the person who is walking you down the aisle knows what to do, where to stand and when to sit. Dad’s can feel a little lost sometimes on where to be.
Again, on the other side you can let him/them/her know from the notes I give each couple.
Your Vendors Are Your Best Friends!
Apart from those couple of points your professional vendors will have you all where they need you. As your celebrant I will discuss this with you in detail. I even add in choreography notes into our ceremony script so you know exactly what is happening and where we will be at all times. I will also give you one page cheat sheet on rehearsal tips.
But I’ve Got Kids and Pets Involved?
When it comes to kids and pets - NEVER have a rehearsal just because there are kids or pets involved. It’s one thing to have a small child rehearse with a small number of people when everyone is very relaxed. It’s a totally different story on the big day. They may have been poked and prodded, camera’s in their faces for hours and everyone pawing at their cuteness. Then comes the big walk down the aisle - this can push even the most outgoing child over the edge. It’s best to keep kids as relaxed as possible.
As for your fur babies, always ensure you have someone to help out on the day. The best solution is to hire a professional company to help. I’ve seen them in action and they are amazing. Plus you don’t want your rings on the pooches collar if he decides to bolt after a seagull!
Always ask the questions of your celebrant. They will guide you and help you make the best decision for you!
