Let's Talk Witnesses

Maleny Weddings

Why do we need witnesses?

The two witnesses are the official legal witnesses to the marriage under law and their presence serves a legal purpose. The purpose is to be able to swear in court as to the identify of the parties or to testify to the circumstances in which the ceremony was performed, including the date and place.

Who can be your witnesses?

Anyone can be a witness provided they are over 18 years of age, speak and understand English and are 'relatively' sober. They must be present at the ceremony and witness the couple say their legal vows and sign the documents.

(Did you know that you are legally married after you've stated the legal vows! The paperwork is just to prove that you said them.)

Traditionally your witnesses used to be one of your bridal party. But more and more I'm finding couples chose other members of their family or friends. I particularly love it when we have chosen the couples mums and kept it a surprise. The beautiful emotions that cross surprised guests faces when we invite them to the signing table, melts my heart every single time.

Just like Marisa's mum and Michaels grandfather in the photo above. Such a special moment that was so special to the lovely couple.

This photo was beautifully captured by Luke Middlemiss Photography.
