What month should I get married?

There is no right or wrong time of the year to get married. It really depends on your situation, the vibe you want for your day and the way you picture your wedding day in your mind.

Here are my thoughts on each of the seasons in Brisbane, Queensland.

Summer

It can be really hot and sweaty in BrisVegas in the summertime. But those summer afternoons that can go on for hours are completely blissful. Maybe have the wedding ceremony start a little later in the day. Have cold drinks on hand for your guests, some shade or consider a wedding venue with aircon.

Then after the ceremony ends, serve icy cold cocktails and get into the summer evening groove.

You will also need to think about what to wear. Those beautiful gowns can get a little bit hot under the skirts and you definitely don’t want your poor groom in a three piece suit.

Autumn

April and May are really popular wedding months. The days are a little cooler and generally the rain stays away (although don’t quote me on that!). You have your choice of stunning autumnal florals that will stay fresh for longer and the romantic hair and makeup will definitely stay in place. For the guys, there won’t be a sweaty back in sight. The leaves of the trees turn that burnished colour and the back drop to your photos is like something out of an art gallery.

Winter

June, July and August are normally the quiet months of the year and I really don’t know why. These can be some of my favourite weddings. The weather is stunning (you can’t go past a perfect Brisbane Winters day.) You can get married outside and your makeup will stay on your face. The boys will love wearing their suits. Winter photos are that little bit crisper as the light is so much softer and you won’t get those squinty eyes from the sun. The big bonus is that venues usually have greater availability and sometimes offer discounts in the quieter times.

Spring

September and October. The two busiest months of the year in the wedding industry. I can see why you’d want your wedding in Spring. The weather is gorgeous. The flowers are in full bloom. The gardens are alive with colour. The people of Brisbane tend to come out of hibernation and are ready to party. It really is a fabulous time of year to plan your wedding. The big tip is to start the planning early. If you want to hold your special day in these months, I would start looking at booking your venue at least 18 months out. As a busy celebrant, I get a lot of bookings 1-2 years in advance for key Spring dates and I’m sure that popular wedding photographers are the same. It’s never too early to lock in your favourites wedding suppliers.

Whatever month you chose, ensure you research all aspects of the day for you and your guests. Everyone has different opinions to what season they love the most. Go for the one you love the most.
